Responsibilities and duties

  • Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional completion of assigned loan origination and closing functions.
  • Analyzes loan risk and requests additional information as necessary. Discusses loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in such a manner as to elicit positive outcomes for members and Credit Union staff. Issues conditional approvals and reviews loan conditions as necessary.
  • Coordinates and processes closings, including loan documentation and disclosures. Ensures that each loan is promptly and properly prepared, documented, processed, approved, and disbursed. Works closely with the rest of the mortgage/servicing team to close and finalize loan files.
  • Calculates terms, finance charges, and insurance on loans for proper disclosure on promissory notes.
  • Is familiar with and ensures compliance with regulatory standards and Credit Union policies and guidelines. Ensures that loan requests are properly documented.
  • Communicates effectively and promptly with branch loan officers on the status of their loans. Works with branch loan officers on collection of conditional documentation and any other form of documentation needed for approval.
  • Approves loans within limits of authority. Advises members and branch loan officers of loan approval or denial. Explains loan denials precisely and clearly to members and loan officers.
  • Performs collections’ efforts in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures and ensures they are legally compliant.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and professional business relationships with members, internal staff, and vendors.
  • Ensures that members’ requests and questions are promptly and courteously resolved.
  • Ensures that members are properly informed of Credit Union loan policies and services.
  • Ensures that the Credit Union’s quality and professional reputation is projected and maintained.

  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel and with management.
  • Counsels related departments and branches as needed to provide support for members.
  • Assists Mortgage Loan personnel and serves as a backup as needed.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.
  • Assists in training and cross-training of Loan Officers and support personnel.
  • Recommends areas of improvement to staff and loan officers.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Actively and professionally cross-sells Credit Union services.
  • Stays informed regarding changes in lending standards, related legal requirements, and trends in local real estate and competitive market.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance, cleanliness, and security of work area, desks, equipment, etc.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum two years Credit Union or banking experience.

Experience

  • Understanding of the foundation of determining credit worthiness.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union loan policies, products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisals.
  • One to two years of related loan processing experience preferred.
  • Real Estate background helpful.
