Jimmy Ramkissoon

Hailing from Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago, Jimmy Ramkissoon is a student at Goshen (Indiana) College, where plays for the college's men's soccer team and is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in accounting. Jimmy interned at the Everence® headquarters in Goshen, during the summer of 2017.

What did you do during your internship?

I worked with the Everence Chief Financial Officer on a couple of financial projects, including a proposal draft for new independent auditors, where I focused on the questionnaire, deliverables and the scope of operations.

I also had the opportunity to put together a presentation for an Everence Board of Directors meeting, outlining the differences of Statutory Accounting and Generally Accepting Accounting Principles specific to Everence. This entailed recreating the organizational charts of Everence, distinguishing the audited entities from the non-profit entities.

Lastly, I worked on procedures for the second quarter closing of 2017 for two Everence entities, coding invoices and posting financial statements – specifically transferring information from the accounting database to the public database.

What did you like most about your internship?

I enjoyed being able to work directly in line with my major and the opportunity to put into practice what I’ve been learning in school into the work environment. I liked seeing the accounting procedures such as GAAP and SSAP in financial documents. I also enjoyed how friendly and open everyone was.

What is the most valuable thing you learned throughout your internship?

I learned how important it is to pay attention to detail and how beneficial it can be to be meticulous about your work.
