Friends Retirement Plan

The Friends Retirement Plan is a valuable employee benefit for nonprofits, churches and meetings associated with the Society of Friends.

In cooperation with the broader Friends community, your organization can benefit from:

  • Ease of administration
  • Affordable costs
  • Stewardship-oriented investments
  • Mutual aid among Friends

Church plan benefits

The 403(b) church plan allows pastors to receive plan distributions as a housing allowance. It is not subject to the ERISA reporting requirements and facilitates mutual aid, allowing small and large organizations, meetings and churches to share costs.

Investment management

You will benefit from an independent qualitative and quantitative screening process to allow choices from top-performing funds -- plus socially oriented investments.

Record keeping and administration

Through the plan, you team with PenServ Plan Services, a seasoned record-keeping partner, for fully bundled services for your organization and participants. PenServ monitors all aspects of the plan, including eligibility tracking and conducting all testing and Form 5500 preparation, if needed.

Plan sponsor communication

Everence can hold implementation and transition meetings, conduct an annual review for your leaders and provide consulting services.

Communication with participants

Everence is present from the first enrollment meeting through a participant’s retirement life cycle, even helping individuals and families meet financial goals.

Fiduciary assistance

Employers are often expected to shoulder the fiduciary responsibility for their retirement plans. Everence shares the fiduciary responsibility with the plan trustee, Friends United Meeting, by helping to choose investment options.

About the plan

Friends United Meeting is the trustee and plan sponsor, offering the plan broadly to meetings, churches and organizations associated with all Friends communities in the U.S. Plan partner Everence, founded by the Mennonite Church, is a full-service financial organization serving Mennonite/Anabaptist and like-minded communities.
