Adrian Gonzalez Martinez

What is your background? (Hometown, schools, major, etc.)
I’m originally from Metepec, Mexico. I’m currently a senior at Goshen College, majoring in Computer Science. In addition to my academics, I’m also a member of the Goshen College Men’s Soccer Team.

What is your role at Everence and where are you located?
I am one of three IT User Support Interns based at the Everence corporate office in Goshen, Indiana.

How did you find Everence?
I found the internship opportunity at Everence through the Goshen College Job Bank, which connects students with local employers.

What is your day to day like in your internship?
Every day at the internship brings something new, which keeps things interesting. One of our main summer projects has been upgrading computers. This involves installing the new operating system and making sure everything runs smooth afterward.

Another big project is managing computer transfers for employees whose computer warranties are about to expire. This involves working with each employee to transfer their files and settings to a new device. Some transfers are simple, while others can be more complex, especially when unexpected issues come up. At first, it was a challenge to figure out the process, but with teamwork and persistence, we’ve made a lot of progress.

What is something valuable you've learned through your internship?
This internship has taught me many valuable lessons. I’ve learned how a professional business environment operates, improved my communication skills, and gained experience in troubleshooting a wide range of technical issues. I’ve also had the chance to collaborate with different departments, such as Information Security and the OnBase team, which helped me see how various parts of the organization work together.

What is something you like to do on the weekends?
On weekends, I like to relax. If I don’t have a soccer game, I enjoy going for a walk, reading, or simply laying on the grass while enjoying a smoothie bowl.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
My favorite local restaurant is Hacienda.

What advice do you have for future interns at Everence?
My advice to future interns is: don’t be afraid. At first, everything might seem overwhelming, and you might feel like you’re not ready, but trust me, you are more than capable. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and take advantage of resources like the solved tickets, you’ll often find the answers there. Most importantly, enjoy the experience. Time really flies. I started in February and thought the internship would feel long and slow, but now that summer is almost over, I find myself wishing I could go back and relive every moment, even the challenging ones.
