Lui Alonso, HR intern
I first heard about Everence about three years ago when a friend of mine interned here. Last year, I had a class assignment where I needed to interview an HR professional, so I reached out to that same friend, and she connected me with Everence. I ended up doing my project about the HR team of Everence, and by the end of it, they encouraged me to apply for the internship, and I’m so glad I did!
What is your day-to-day like in your internship?
I usually start my day by heading straight to the coffee machine to wake up a little. Then I check for any updates or changes in the recruitment process and go over my daily tasks. Each day looks a little different, but I do have a few regular responsibilities I check in on every day. There's always something new to work on, which keeps things interesting.
What is something valuable you've learned through your internship?
One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is the importance of asking questions and learning from the people around me. I’ve gained so much, not just professionally, but personally. There are so many people with great insights to share, and I’ve grown a lot by just listening and being open to learning.
What is something you like to do on the weekends?
On the weekends, I love going to Lake Michigan and spending the day at the beach with friends. It’s my favorite way to relax and recharge.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
My favorite local spot is Bru Burger on Eddy Street in South Bend. The food is amazing, and after a good meal, I like walking around the Notre Dame campus, such a pretty area!
What advice do you have for future interns at Everence?
Take advantage of every learning opportunity you get here. You’ll gain so much knowledge in your specific department and field of work, but also a lot of wisdom that applies to life in general. Be open, ask questions, and take it all in!
