Prevent fraud this holiday season

Be alert by staying calm and informed

Everence® Federal Credit Union urges you to remain alert in the coming holiday weeks. Scammers count on your busyness and will play on your kindness and generosity. Remember that fraudsters often try to impersonate family, banks, credit unions, law enforcement, government and even charities.

If you receive an unexpected text, email, phone call or piece of mail, take a moment and consider your next steps before you do anything. Remember to hang up before giving personal information, account information or access to your computer or phone. Look up the caller or the website independently and call them directly. Stay calm and wait before letting their urgency rush you into something.

You can help be prepared by checking out this website from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that details some current scams and what to do. You also can check our webpage that has other articles with tips on preventing fraud.

Everence hopes you have a wonderful, safe holiday season.
