Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) launches July 8

MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a one-time secure access code when logging in from an unrecognized device.

Consumer members will receive this code via phone, while business users will receive it via email.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security when utilizing our online/mobile banking applications by requiring more than just a password to log into the system.

What is the purpose of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Passwords to your online accounts can be stolen or guessed by potential fraudsters. Adding a second layer of security in which a secure access code (SAC) is sent directly to a device in your personal possession, significantly increases the security of your account information.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the introduction of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Yes. It’s very important that we keep your contact information (address, phone number, email) up to date. Keeping your contact information up to date will ensure that anytime that we would need to contact you with important information and, in this case send you a secure access code, that we will be able to reach you in a timely manner. In addition, if you utilize a debit or credit card with Everence, we may also utilize your contact information to confirm transaction details to protect you from fraud on your account.

What will the screen look like when prompted to begin the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) process?

There will be 2 screens that you will be prompted to enter/confirm information when completing the MFA process.

Screen #1 will prompt you to select the phone number* from the phone number(s)* that are currently on file for your membership to which you would prefer the secure access code (SAC) be sent to via text. Click the radio button beside the chosen phone number*, and then click Send Code.

*Note – businesses will be prompted to select an email address rather than a phone number for which to receive the SAC.

Screen #2 will prompt you to enter the secure access code (SAC) that was sent to your preferred phone number*. Enter the SAC. Click Verify and Sign In.

Will I ever need to give my secure access code (SAC) to someone else?

No. You should never share your secure access code (SAC) with anyone—even if they say they’re from the credit union. Everence staff will never ask you to provide a SAC in order to assist you. If you are not actively logging in and someone requests your code (via phone, text, or email), do not share it as this may likely be a fraud attempt. Please report any suspicious activity to Everence immediately, as someone may be trying to gain unauthorized access to your account.
