Information event provided ideas on how to help donors support missions with creative ways to give

A group of nonprofit leaders from Philadelphia recently gained ideas about how to help donors with creative ways those supporters can give and support the causes they care about.

The organizations included Cultured Enuf, The Common Place, The City School, Whosoever Gospel Mission, and Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association –– among many others from the region.

The event was led by generosity experts from Everence.

In total about 30 people from 24 organizations joined the development event in Eastern Pennsylvania.

It was led by Stewardship Consultant Randy Nyce from the Everence Souderton office, with information provided by Elyse Kauffman, a Charitable Consultant from the Central Penn offices of Everence. Leonard Dow, Vice President of Community and Church Development also joined. He helps lead the Everence Philadelphia services.

What are some of those creative giving ideas?

People can donate to charities through their will or estate plans, and by donating assets beyond cash –– like securities, real estate, property, or other items of value.

They can also start a donor advised fund to grow funds over time that can be distributed to charity at a later time.

And people can also name nonprofits as beneficiaries of charitable gift annuities –– which first provide a steady stream of payments to the annuity holder.

Organizations also have a number of options available to encourage charitable giving.

The themes of this informational event applied to a range of professionals: development professionals, executives and board members.

How a nonprofit communicates to its supporters and wider community is also an important consideration. Elyse discussed some of the implications and strategies of an outreach strategy based on her long past experience as a fundraising professional.
