James McKeever wins top prize in Everence video contest

Shared prize also goes to Camp Chetek


Online voters selected James McKeever’s video about how money doesn’t buy everything as the winning production in the 2014 Everence Money Talks video contest. McKeever from Lakeville, Indiana, will receive a $1,000 cash prize for winning the contest and as part of the shared prize, a grant of $1,000 will go to his selected charity, Camp Chetek, a church camp in Chetek Wisconsin.

McKeever edged out second place finisher Kyle Kurczewski of Alliance, Ohio, for his video about how people can use money as a voice for good. Kurczewski, 18, will receive a $500 cash prize and $500 will go to his selected charity of Meeting God in Missions, which serves in the Dominican Republic.

Andy Schumacher of Philippi, West Virginia, finished in third place with his fictional account of a man who discovers what he truly values. Schumacher, 19, will receive $250 prize and $250 will go to his selected charity of Heart and Hand House, which provides emergency assistance to people in need.

The contest was developed to give young people an avenue to express their views about the role of money and to showcase creative talent in our communities. Nearly 10,000 online votes determined the final results.

“The creative messages in these videos were inspirational and enjoyable to watch,” said Everence President and CEO Ken Hochstetler. “We appreciate the energy and work that went into these projects and thank everyone who entered and shared their ideas.”
