Medicare is a federal program that provides health-care benefits to people 65 and older, or who have a special condition or disability.

The first step, as you approach 65, is to decide when you’ll start using Medicare as your health insurance. The answer isn’t the same for everyone.

  • Will you still be employed at age 65 and covered under an employer-sponsored health insurance plan?
  • If so, how large is your employer? (Different rules apply, depending on whether the employer has at least 20 employees.)
  • Will you be receiving Social Security benefits at 65 or do you plan to delay those benefits?

There’s a lot to think about. Everence® has years of experience in helping people choose a Medicare approach that makes sense for their situations.

We’ve produced a guide called Your transition to Medicare that can answer some of your questions. Ask your Everence advisor for a copy of the guide. Meeting with an Everence professional can help you understand the options available to you.
