Seasoned insurance leader, Bret Kolb joins as Vice President of Health Insurance

Everence announced the appointment of Bret Kolb as its next Vice President of Health Insurance, beginning June 15, 2015.

“I am delighted that Bret is bringing his talents and depth of experience in the insurance industry to Everence and the communities we serve,” said Jim Alvarez, Senior Vice President and CFO. “Bret adds significant strength to our insurance business.”

Career and education

Kolb was director of the Alaska Division of Insurance in Anchorage, where he was the chief regulator for the state. While there, he led implementation of the state’s insurance marketplace as part of the federal Affordable Care Act and oversaw insurance law, regulations and enforcement.

Previously vice president at AXA Equitable in New York, Kolb led the insurer’s health, life and annuity reinsurance departments. Previously, Kolb served in other health and disability insurance management roles at the company.

During his career, he also served as business development director and comptroller at Victory Ministries of Alaska, the state’s largest nonprofit camp and conference center.

Kolb holds a master’s degree in business management from Strayer University and a bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University.
